BRAIN STRUCTURE AND HISTOLOGY

This lab covers some basic anatomy of the nervous system, from the cellular level all the
way up to large structural areas in the mammalian brain. Some things you will examine
are in the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) and some in the Central Nervous System
(CNS). Some structures are named differently, depending on where they are located.
For instance, in the CNS collections of neurons are called nuclei, but in the PNS,
collections of neurons are called ganglia. Also, collections of axons are called tracts in the
CNS, and nerves in the PNS.


HISTOLOGY
In this section, you will use the compound microscope to examine slides of tissues in the
nervous system. Pay close attention to the structures pointed out on each slide and keep
in mind the function of structures in the nervous system. You may want to make
sketches of the important features of each slide.......
